My story is no ordinary career story but it is one that proves that with the right motivation and determination, it is possible to achieve your dreams. I was raised exposed to the media but rather than let this influence me negatively, I let it fuel my ambitions. I begun training in martial arts at the tender age of nine years and got my first Dan Black Belt at the age of twelve years. I enjoyed media that featured martial arts and tuned in to YouTube to guide me on my path to martial arts excellence. I was particularly fascinated with films that involved self defense such as Star Wars.
Like any child who admires what they see on TV and attempts to practice it, I started dueling with my brother using rusty metal poles. As a teenager, I was a fan of ‘Ninja Turtles’, where my favorite character was Leonardo. It was during this time that I was completely obsessed with double sword. During this period no one practiced double sword which made it seem to me like an unattainable ambition. Luckily, I bumped into double sword specialist Kalman Coska on YouTube. I studied his background, reviewed his combinations and practiced whenever I could. I gained quite a wealth of double sword strategies from Coska. This can serve as a great inspiration for those who lack the means to finance their passions. There is always a way out if you look keenly.
Three year ago I came up and implemented a weapons curriculum at my Martial Arts Academy where am a teacher. I teach Bo staff. Kama's and sword (single) at the academy. The reason I enjoy martial arts is because it has something for everyone. Martial arts instill discipline and boost self esteem. It generally influences people in a positive way. Martial arts is about nurturing talent, character and self awareness.
